Providing innovative earth-solutions and technologies for Welsh industry

The Seren Project
Led by the GRC in partnership with the British Geological Survey (BGS), Seren is a European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) research project, aimed at developing innovative engineering technologies for commercial applications within the following geo-energy themes:
- Ground Source Heat
- Underground Coal Gasification
- Carbon Sequestration in Coal and Soil
- Geoinformatics: Low Carbon Toolkit
- Advanced Computational Modelling
How we work
Seren will run for five years from 2010 through to June 2015, and is aimed at helping businesses to find new commercial opportunities. The thrust of the project is to further develop the above mentioned research themes to a point where their commercial application can be maximised. This will be achieved through a variety of collaborations with industry.
A typical collaborations might involve a company working jointly with the Seren team to develop a new commercial application for a particular research idea, which can then be taken to the marketplace. If your company has a desire to explore what commercial opportunities might arise from the Seren project, then please contact us.
Seren is committed to supporting, developing and promoting equality and diversity, and to this end, the team can help companies to adopt or improve their equality strategies and monitoring systems.
Seren is committed to environmental sustainability, and as such, we can help companies to adopt or improve their environmental management systems.
There will be opportunities for companies to interact with our global network, of industrial and academic partners.
What are the benefits?
There are many ways in which companies can benefit from the project, including:
- Access to new knowledge
- Access to new products
- Opportunities to develop innovative applications
- Access to International research initiatives and export opportunities
- Opportunities to access external funding
