Geoenvironmental Research Park - Jan-2002 » Dec-2004

This project is aimed at creating a Geoenvironmental Research Park (GRP) in the Wales Objective 1 area, which addresses the problems of a sustainable geoenvironment. The GRP is carrying out a range of Geoenvironmental field experiments. In addition to creating a facility to carry out front line research, the GRP has created and has the potential to create a number of high tech companies working in the broad field of environment and sustainability.

The GRP project draws on the experience and expertise of seven organisations namely Cardiff University’s Geoenvironmental Research Centre (GRC), The Welsh Development Agency (WDA), BP Chemicals Ltd, TRL Limited (TRL), Minton Treharne & Davies (MTD) Trinity College, Carmarthen, and Hafren Group.

The GRP is working towards programs of research, application, and development for problems dealing with environmental suitability i.e. the type of environmental features in the Objective 1 area. The site of the GRP, by its very location, replicates conditions and constraints in Wales, and this enabled many of the sustainability problems to be addressed.

Alternative and secondary materials are utilised to construct field experiments. The performance of the techniques and materials are monitored and the results disseminated in publications, seminars, on the GRP web site and through visits by interested parties to observe the techniques in action.

The Research Park provides field trial opportunities to conduct feasibility techniques. It gives companies the opportunity to test their own preferred schemes with proper monitoring and control utilising the staff and facilities at the Park.

The primary contact for this project is Rob Francis.
