The Seren Project
We are pleased to announce that the GRC has recently been awarded project Seren by The Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO). As a result of this award, there will be vacancies at the center for research staff and students.
Seren is an £8.35m European Regional Development Fund project, funded by the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) as part of the 2007 - 2013 Convergence programmes. The project will be undertaken by Cardiff University’s Geoenvironmental Research Centre (GRC).
Seren has been designed specifically to deliver the objectives of the Convergence programme, and its aim of the project will be to deliver new and innovative ground engineering technologies that will address the low carbon agenda. The thrust of the project will be to create new companies and jobs, support existing companies, and increase profitability in companies within the convergence area.
At the heart of the project will be the development and strengthening of a climate of innovation and exploitation of low carbon technologies across Wales, highlighting Wales as a leader in this area. The four research priorities identified are Ground Source Heat, Underground Coal Gasification, Carbon Sequestration, and Geoinformatic Packages With Low Carbon Applications.
We will soon be advertising for specialists wishing to undertake research in the above areas. There will also be opportunities for those wishing to pursue a higher degree. Further details will soon follow.
