GRC Hosts Safe Barriers Meeting
The Geoenvironmental Research Centre hosted the bi-annual project meeting that investigates the safe containment of radioactive waste.
The project, led by the University of Strathclyde, looks at ways to monitor the bentonite buffer used in radioactive waste storage in order to assess how it will react to changes in pressure, temperature, pH levels and erosion.
The meeting, which took place on Wednesday 25th September in Cardiff University’s Graduate Centre, was attended by partners from the University of Glasgow; the University of Edinburgh; Oxford University; Newcastle University; the British Geological Survey and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
The next meeting will be hosted by the University of Edinburgh in March 2014.
